Not going out...I'm going out out

It's time for the fortnightly challenge at Stampotique.

This week the theme is Out Of The Box. This was a tricky start to a challenge for me in the sense that I would like to think that I always try and think out of the box as it were so didnt really know where to go with this.

After much huffing and puffing I thought 'right, I'll have to add more that one 'out of the box' ...that will do it...I needed to go out-out lol So I started off with a background technique I've always admired but never tried...wax paper scrumpled up, ironed onto white card, then blend ink over the top.

The background reminded me of sky and sea at the same time so I got out Great Moon stamp and one of Daniel's mermaids and contemplated which direction I should go with. Then it hit me..., why not have a mermaid draped over the moon, it doesn't get much more weirdy out of the box than that!

The moon was 'facing'; the wrong way though.... so I stamped it and then flipped it over.

The mermaid needed turning upside down... There...Smumanah sits better that way and it is now more aesthetically pleasing to me as there is a better flow of shapes. The star that usually hangs from the moon ended up being cut off as obviously that wasn't going to work, but I took the hanging star idea and hand drew a star hanging over her arm.

After colouring in, I finished with the Same Moon saying and then doodled around the outside of the panel. It didnt look right as a card so I turned it into a hanging, beaded up some wire and used that for the hook. The beads are actually a PERFECT match in real life but have come out brownish instead of purple in the photo. grrrrrr. So thats my contribution this week. I'm all 'out of the box'-ed out now what with background techniques, flipping, stamp combining and beading... I hope you can join in, take a broader outlook at whats around or what you have and see what comes together.

You can also be in with a chance of winning a $30 gift certificate to spend at Stampotique if your name gets drawn out. Please check out the Stampotique Designer's site for challenge rules and also to see the wonderfully diverse examples from the team.

And whilst you are there, read all about the team-call Stampotique DESIGN TEAM CALL. !!

LOADS of bonus's making for Stampotique Originals. Why not give it a whirl. ...what's to lose? You never know.

ps...You'll only get the title of this post if you're a Micky Flanigan fan, an east end Londoner , talking about going out or out out...here is performing the set in Brighton, just down the road from me.
Thanks for dropping by.

Definitely weird, he, he. Love it, though and I love any resist technique, so it's bound to be a winner for me. MF is great but it made me think of another 'going out, going out, out...' so it worked for me anyway. Lovely work, as ever, Jo x

Only you Jo could put a mermaid on the moon :D Love her!

Loved the clip too - have just sat here chuckling away. Ah yes, my nightclub days are definitely over... they were only short lived to begin with. Far to much noise and young people (and that's WHEN I was young! *g*)

Micky Flanigan cracks me up, I love him, he's great. Your hanging is brilliant and a genius idea to have the start hanging off the mermaids arm. You definitely thought outside the box. Michelle x
