Summer tiiiiiiiiime...

Its here....

Summer has arrived....

My most disliked of all seasons.

So when the theme of 'WHAT SUMMER MEANS TO YOU' was set by DT member Valerie Wilson over on the Stampotique Designers Challenge this week, my initial reaction was 'ohhh noooo' (in a Zilly from 'Stop The Pigeon' voice, shrinking my head down into my coat) as instantly all that sprang to mind was sunshine, beaches and people having a great time like a neverending looped scene from Baywatch rofl...the misery woman I am rofl

Then it registered!..Its what summer means to me not how summer is generally depicted....so I did just that.

As part of my card I used a torn page from an amazing book that I got hold of which lists how a household should be run by women in Victorian Britain- this page lists things like airing the beds, cleaning out the fireplace, bringing in coal, beating rugs, dusting the stairs, drawing down the blinds in bedrooms after dinner etc etc.

"SEEM VERY MUCH OUT OF KEEPING WITH THE FINE WEATHER AND BRIGHT SUNSHINE"

That sentence above could be a sentence describing me lol...I'm very pale skinned, don't do sunshine, wear my long sleeved tops and stomping boots for as long as physically possible into summer. It was infact a sentence describing Victorian curtains/drapes and heavy bedding, but I thought it was a perfect line to sum up me and summer.
So here I am lying flat out on the lawn(I dont actually do that but its what I'd look like if I did...only bigger but Daniel doesn't draw plus sized characters lol) being HOT HOT HOT.(note the boots and long sleeved top lol)

And this is my expression throughout the summer months if you were to lift my hat!

:0)

Of course those living in much hotter climes, such as Arizona where all these stamps are made at Stampotique, must think I'm maaad moaning about a few sunny weeks/months in the south of the UK, but its different heat here...IT IS!! HONEST!! rofl...Its sticky heat. You guys in the desert have it eeeeasy with your 107 degrees rofl *gulp* (heehee)

To make this I drew a big circle onto yellow card (drew around a roll of sellotape) and hand drew 'rays' all the way around it. This was my main part of the card. I attached this to what I can only describe as a large name place setting (folded black rectangular card).

Stamps used are all Stampotique Originals from four different designers.

Mink and Alphabitties by Daniel Torrente and Jill Penney
Sun Design by Maryse Carrier
Splatter Long and Splatter Blob by me, Jo Capper-Sandon.
I drew the hat.

Stampotique Originals stamps are also available from Happy Daze here in the UK.

As this is the first Stampotique Designers Challenge of June its the one where you are allowed to use any stamps to create your summer masterpiece with, it doesn't have to be a card by the way, and in doing so stand yourself in with a chance to win $15 worth of rubber (your choice) from Stampotique if your name is chosen in the draw in two weeks time( its a random draw so all stand a chance of winning).

Really looking forward to finding out what summer means to you :0) Are you a sun worshipper slapping on the factor 30 on the beach or a stayer-inner watching Wimbledon with your strawberries and cream hoping for cooler autumnal weather?

Jo, I absolutely LOVE the shape of your card it is stunning. I am soooo glad to find someone else who doesn't "do" summer - I hate the humid heat too. (Am also very pale skinned too and don't tan so don't see the point of going in the sun) I always knew you were a girl after my own heart! love this challenge though so must have a crack at it, especially after getting a "top 3" for the last one!
Thank you for making my day start with a smile.

hehe! Beleive it or not, I hear you on the heat thing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE dry heat......here in Kingston, it can get very humid as well. Not so bad when lounging by the lake though and lucky that my man lives on a beautiful lake! I've never looked more forward to summer! Your words and card gave me a chuckle this morning. Funny that you should create little garden gnomes too!

Have a wonderful day Jo,

Hugs

Vicki

I love the shape of this and the lounging guy with the sunhat cracks me up. Great job on this challenge and unfortunately I'm in a humid state!

FINALLY! Someone else who hates summer. Can I join your club? I hate sweating, I don't want a tan, I hate the heat, I wear my boots and long (or if I'm particularly hot 3/4 length sleeves) for as long as I can bear. I stay inside or stay in the shade. Give me spring and autumn every time :P

I adore this card and am so glad you did a what summer means to YOU version. One of my very favourites of yours!

You are so funny - and so much like me when it comes to summer! I have to be virtually pried out of my big boots and black cardy each year! Is there anywhere else that stocks your stamps in the Uk please Jo? One of your stamps that I wanted is out of stock over at Happy Daze, Jo x

This is really funny - although I wish I was Joanne's lazing in the garden summer girl, I think really I am more the melting hot and bothered version you've come up with!

Oh my goodness! Thank you for telling me to LOOK at your blog because I never would have seen all of the card on the challenge blog.
"YOU" lying on the grass with your WHITE FACE.........what a scream! Its a great card, Jo!!! and with SUCH MEANING!!! Made my laugh for the day! Thank you SO much! Carol in the hot desert...and yes, it IS a different kind of heat, until, of course, the monsoons arrive....then we are HOT and HUMID!

Fabulous card with great humour. I am a recluse during summer. It really is my enemy - but I don't begrudge the sunny days for those who can soak up the sunshine - bless them.

It's great gardening in the evening - really relaxing - and I have ceiling fans in every single room which helps too.

I am a very happy bunny this summer as maxi dresses are 'in' - so I can swan around in the latest fashion dressed up to the 'nines' with a big straw hat, and gloves - like someone out of an old book!

I am so very glad you blogged again - I really miss your inspiration.

Really entertaining post!..Love the artwork...but your comments about the sun had me lol,,,as I HATE the sun and heat...my husband tells me I am a "vampire".....

LOL What a great card! I loved your explanation. I don't like heat but I could use a little sunshine before I get SADS. Sun makes me feel guilty when I want to do my crafty things instead of gardening. Not too guilty hehe.

OMG, this is just awesome Jo!!! I wish I had done the same thing, as that is how I really feel as well! Except, no boots or long sleeved shirts...I think I would be naked all summer, but I am sure I would be arrested, plus scare everyone away!! Don't get me wrong, I too am plus sized, but the heat and humidty get to me so badly...and I don't tan, I burn...I am very fair and blonde....grrrr...I want FALL!!!!! Thank you for the great laugh!! Just LOVE your card!!!!!!
Hugs,
Kim

Can you hear me laughing from here in Halifax?? OMG - THIS IS ME!! White as a ghost, hiding from the sun, wearing SPF 1 Million, a wide brimmed hat pulled right down over my dark sunglasses, covered in bug spray, wearing gardening gloves tromping around the yard, wishing for clouds! I am so grateful that we live beside a lake so I can take a break from the mid-day sun and cool off in the water! Thanks for your fantastic creation and wicked sense of humour!
Val :)

This card really made me smile, even laugh as I am a redhead and I'm not one for very hot summers, does not really go with my pale skin either. I love your contribution for this challenge. Tracy Evans x

Hi Jo, like you, I cant do the sun and scuttle about trying to avoid it. Being a red head and very pale and interesting, anything less is positively dangerous! Love your depiction. Perhaps we're Summer Goths?! I gave you and your blog an award today if you'd like to come and pick it up. Pen x

Love this creation Jo, so gorgeously individual.
Can't say I share your dislike of the hot weather but have to agree it's much more humid here than I would like. Give me heat over cold any day,XX
