Stars and (Mr) Stripes

The latest theme over on the Stampotique Designers Challenge Blog is SDC #10 'Freedom' (could be based a patriotic/flag/July 4th type of theme or any form of freedom you like) hosted by our head DT member, Kim Howard.

I batted this theme around my head for quite a while and came up with this version, my Stampotique version of Stars and (Mr) Stripes, just taking the name of the American flag, reversing the colours and experimenting with shapes.
As I'm typing this ahead of the reveal of the collection of the teams artwork for this (the reveal is just as much a suprise for us as to what the other members have done), I'm slightly apprehensive thinking 'ohhhhhh heck, I'm so predictable, I bet everyones thought of this idea lol', so truth will out by the time you are reading this and hopefully there won't be an entire line up of these little arachnids wearing Uncle Sam hats (yes originally I drew a little top hat for Mr Stripes for this card) and waving flags...if so I apologise and I need to try harder :0)

The Mr Stripes stamp is by Stampotique, available direct from the USA or from Happy Daze here in the UK.
The starry background paper is by Magnolia Ink with a wild roughed up coat of white gesso around the edges. Stars and Stripes words printed from the PC. The stripes are just freehand lines of Copic and the text stars are drawn.

I hope you are able to join in with us this week using your Stampotique stamps (its a second challenge of the month so Stampotique only please this week) and in doing so stand a chance of winning a $15 gift cert to spend on rubber at Stampotique Originals.

Now that's what I call Stars and Stripes! Lateral thinking or what.

Just love that spider with attitude - Abraham Lincoln?

Could be - his forebears came from our village here

Jo, I LOVE your interpretation this time! When my eyes saw the card for the first time I laughed out loud at Mr. Stripes! He is the STRIPES in Stars and Stripes! How funny is that! What a sense of humor you have! Thanks for explaining the white around the edges. I was going to ask how you achieved that look. P.S. The true name of our American flag is OLD GLORY.
