...my new oil pastels and gesso have arrived and this afternoon I grabbed a few moments to experiment a little using the well known technique of "slap it on , smudge it around a bit then see what happens".
Big markings with the oil pastels and dry brushwork gave two quite different looks.
They started off as ATC's using the splash bg from Hermines blog, (but the only evidence of that now is the pink splash on the girl creation -I'll try again another day to keep it more visible), so the backgrounds of these are essentially oils and gesso.
I had a lot of fun with the oil pastels and really got into applying loads of colour, and now you can hardly see any trace of its original starting point.
And as you can see...they are no longer ATC's either rofl

oh i love this new work, the oil crayons and gesso work so well, stunning work:)
Simply stunning as always, Jo. I love the 2nd one. It looks like it could be a slide card, where the top and bottom pieces are connected underneath and slide up and down behind the image. Is it?
Beautiful Jo! Sigh. Another product I must buy and try!
slap it around and smudge it...ummm...that works for me...did you use a lot of fingers...I always use my fingers, and have to stop 30 times and clean them...cause it drives me nuts...
These two are FANTASTICALLY WONDERMOUS!!!!

"slap it on , smudge it around a bit then see what happens"
If i did that the end result would have been some blob mass that even NASA could not tell you what it was - but this is absolutely amazing and inspiring... Jo - again you astound me.
the effects and designs are simply amazing - but then your work ALWAYS is! love these pieces! :)
Isn't it amazing how art work can develop and sometimes turn into something completely different! That's where your wonderful creativity comes in!

Hi Jo
I haven't had time to blog surf recently, but my runner-up prize in your draw arrived today, so I logged on to say thanks and lo and behold, I see you have featured it on your blog - it's the gorgeous 'Through your Eyes' card. I do love the effect. I've got some oil pastels and some gesso, so will have a bash myself.
Just wanted to say thank you so much for sending it to me. It will be much treasured.
