Grunge?? ...Kind of??

This week Hermine set the Wednesday Stamper challenge- Grunge.
What is grunge??
I know grunge music....
grunge clothes...
but grunge in a mixed media/stamping sense??

The rest of Europe seems to have a different view on what is classed as grunge compared to the UK from what I've seen and discussed with artists from Holland, Germany and America. The term grunge in the UK would in my eyes be quite derogatory as grunge artwork ala UK is somewhat dirty, muddy colours, no clarity and sometimes an excuse for just slapping paint and ink onto a canvas in a very carefree no thought manner.

So I had a bit of a 'Oh noooooooo, I won't be doing this theme this week as I really don't have a clue what's what or whats expected of me'.

So I set to working on a piece for Paper Artsy this month using stamps from the Eclectic range and pushed the Wednesday Stamper out of mind.

This is what I came up with... an acetate card with a central image

And here is a close up version of the main image for those that are unable to click and increase the first photograph.

........and looking at it thought...'this is kind of grungy..isn't it??'
Grunge to me is certain colours, dogs on string leads, numerous body piercings and celtic tattoos in abundance, getting off your face etc etc the list goes on.

But I'm not THAT convinced its grungy enough for WS, so I wont enter it....but it made me think about the theme at least- even if it was sub consciously to begin with lol.

Will be interested to see what the artists over on WS come up with this week.

EDIT TO SAY....hmmmm well, I'm still not convinced I know what grungy art is, but taking a look at some of the contributions on WS this week my piece of work is as grungy as the next, so maybe it is grungy afterall lol so in for a penny in for a pound as they say.I will add it to the link on WS and see what happens.

This is lovely Jo & I think suitably grungy....not all grunge has to have white circles stamped over the artwork :)

I love it, I love the "piercings" at the top (how I see it lol) and I love Paper Artsy anyway, so this is gorgeous, never seen a card like that on the acetate. lovely.

I like this Jo.

It has a much softer edge to the 'normal' UK grunge, and I think it works far better.

*smiles* @ Gisele lol
Kaz- yes that was the thought behind the rings...piercings.

What a clever way to display your piece, so that one can see through.

Lovely card Jo. Love acetate !

I agree with you on the "different view about grungy".
It looks like for some, grungy means "white circles".... Although I like those circles, it has kinda puzzled me...
:o)

I find your piece to be very good composition wise. THANK GOD you did not add those white circles to mean you do Grunge. I mean the circles have been around for YEARS in mixed media and all of a sudden POW white circles EVERYWHERE and a lot of them don´t even have anything to do with the compostion of many pieces, are placed all wrong or way to bright. I am beginning to put the white circles in the same bucket with dunce caps and butterfly wings on the backs of figures...whew...too much for me. You have a lot of really good art on your blog here...keep up the great creativity.
